As a child I participated in competitive gymnastics, dance & cheer. In 2011 when TML opened I was 8 years old, I literally grew up in a pole studio.

Laura

A friend introduced me to pole dance. I was hooked from day one. Having a background and teaching both gymnastics & cheer I did take to it naturally.

When I started, pole dancing wasn't the norm. I wanted to do something that helped with fitness that I wouldn't get bored with after a week.

Don't hesitate to give it a try—you don't have to be a specific size, shape, or fitness level to slink around the pole! You will be amazed how quickly your body will adapt, as everytime you rotate around the pole you are building incremental strength!

1. Where are you from?
Warren County, Nc

2. How long have you been teaching dance?
I started teaching about 7 years ago.

3. How did you become interested in Pole dance?
Being a dancer for so long has introduced me to almost every style of dance. I first became intrigued with pole dance through social media. In recent years women have taken control of the narrative and people are seeing pole dance for the art it is and not the degrading stereotype. I immediately saw the grace and strength behind it and was enthralled ever since.

4. What's my favorite thing about teaching dance?

What I love most is seeing the look of achievement on my students face at the end of classes. The look that says “WOW, I really just did that”. It makes me feel good to see their doubt transition to confidence.

5. What kind of music do you like to dance to?
I really like to dance to sensual R&B and upbeat songs with a nice beat. Something that makes me want to get up and dance.

 6. Any advice to those interested in trying dance class for the first time?
The biggest thing I want to stress would be to leave any fear at home. Come in with an open mind and a learning spirit. If you are in class scared and stressing about what’s about to happen, or if other people in the class are better, or people watching…you’re going to miss out on the experience. Just give it your all and dance like nobody’s watching.
